In 2012 Tempur-Pedic International acquired Sealy Corporation (brands: Sealy, Sealy Posturepedic, Stearns and Foster, Optimum).

Tempur-Pedic International, Inc. is a manufacturer and distributor of mattresses and pillows made from viscoelastic foam under the brand Tempur-Pedic®. The company's headquarters is located on the Coldstream Research Campus in Lexington, Kentucky. Temper foam was originally based on NASA’s research to develop a material that would cushion aircraft seats and improve survivability in the event of an accident.

The first Tempur-Pedic mattress was introduced in 1991 by Fagerdala World Foams, a Swedish technical foam firm. The brand was brought to the United States in 1992 and the company Tempur-Pedic, Inc. was founded.Nine distributors of Fagerdala, including Tempur-Pedic, Inc., merged in 1999 to form Tempur World holding company, reformed in 2002 as Tempur-Pedic International Inc. The company went public in 2003.

As Tempurpedic claims they are the most recommended bed in USA. Tempurpedic memory foam is temperature and weight sensitive. Tempurpedic is known for their total pressure relief, motion absorbtion and extreme durability. On average Tempurpedic memory foams are havier and denser compared to competitors. Tempurpedic mattresses do not offer any type of edge reinforcement, they feature the same feel on the whole surface of the mattress. They are hypo-allergenic and resistant to mold and mildew. They offer 25 year limited warranty (3/4" indentation) on most of their products (discontinued basic Simplicity Collection was 10 year warranty, now 25 years limited).
