Spaldin Sleep Systems is a company from Logrono, Spain known for their natural sleep products utilizing plant based foams. It is the first and only major line of mattresses in which ALL components (foam, cover, fire barrier) are certified by Oeko-tex 100 to contain no harmful chemicals. All their mattresses are imported and vacuum packed.
For years Spaldin, Sleep Systems has been a worldwide pioneer in the use of fully certified ecologically and human- safe materials. With the recent award of the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Class I certification for its full line, the company has taken the next step in offering fully tested products certified free of harmful substances. The company already was the first US mattress manufacturer to have certified its entire mattress line materials and components using a distinct Oeko-Tex 100 Class I number (2012OK0023) that covers a broad range from fabric to thread, foams and adhesives to guarantee the complete safety of Spaldin mattresses.
Polyurethane Foam is formed by the reaction of polyols with isocyanate in the presence of a blowing agent. Traditional foam mattresses use polyols derived from petroleum, but in Spaldin mattresses, 40-60% of petroleum-based polyols have been replaced by plant oil-based polyols. While other mattresses use Toluene diisocyanate (TDI) as the catalyst, Spaldin uses MDI (Methylene diphenyl diisocyanate), which does not contain Toluene and is the least hazardous of available isocyanates.
