Bedding retailer Mattress Discounters, operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection since October, has completed the sale of 54 California stores, and is poised to sell 32 other units in California and Michigan.
The sales, key elements in a plan to close or sell about 140 of the Top 100 retailer's 240 stores, mark Mattress Discounters' exit from the California and Michigan markets.
Steve Newton, chief executive officer, said the company sold the 54 stores in the San Francisco, Sacramento and San Diego markets to Sleep Train, a Top 100 retailer based in the Sacramento suburb of North Highlands.
